LAKE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Storms ripped through Lake County battering it, leaving a trail of destruction behind.

High flood water during the storms is responsible for the mountain log of waterlogged household goods and furniture the residents had to discard .

Almost a week later there are still trees down everywhere, highway lights out and sink holes in backyards.

Several residents of Lake County are frustratingly dealing with still-flooded basements and disgusting, smelly messes.

One household had their in-ground pool lifted by its concrete pad caused by rising water.

City officials say nothing is designed to take such a high volume of water in such a short period of time.

The news was not good on prevention.

Residents were informed that designing sewer lines that could handle huge downpours is easy but paying for them is another subject.

Frustrated families had to hear that many of them were not eligible for federal and state government assistance to recover from their loss.
