Cleveland police shoot gunman who opened fire at east side bar

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Two people were rushed to the hospital Friday morning after an overnight shootout at an east side Cleveland bar. 

According to police, the shooting happened at 1:45 a.m. at Winston's Place Bar located at East 131 and Miles.

According to police, the suspect was involved in an altercation inside the bar and removed.  After being removed from the bar, he got a handgun and returned to the bar. The suspect confronted the security guard at the front door. During the confrontation, the suspect shot once in the air and shot the security guard in the leg.

When officers arrived on scene, they ordered the suspect to stop and drop the weapon, but he did not comply and attempted to flee on foot. Officers pursued the suspect, at which time the suspect turned, pointed the handgun at the officers and shot at them.  The officers returned fire hitting the suspect multiple times.

The suspect was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.

An investigation is underway.
