WILLOUGHBY HILLS, OH (WOIO) -

On August 8, 2013, as a result of a nine month investigation by the Willoughby Hills Police Department, the Lake County Grand Jury filed an 11 count secret indictment against Kevin D. Knoefel.

Knoefel was indicted on six counts of sexual battery, two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, and three counts of complicity to aggravated murder, which alone carries a penalty of life in prison with parole eligibility after serving 20, 25, or 30 full years -- or life without parole.

In the early morning hours of November 16, 2012, Kevin D. Knoefel's wife, Lisa M. Knoefel, was stabbed to death in the family home on Chagrin Drive, Willoughby Hills.

Immediately after the murder, Sabrina Zunich was arrested and charged with the murder of Lisa M. Knoefel.

According to the indictment Kevin Knoefel is now charged not just with sleeping with Zunich, his foster daughter who was 17 at the time, but also being the mastermind behind his wife's bloody stabbing.

In the indictment it appears the two had been planning the murder for some time, it says Kevin told his foster daughter to stab his wife at night while she was sleeping, even showed her which knife to use. He told her to stab her between the shoulder blades or neck area, even told her to twist the knife as she was doing it.

Zunich's case has not yet been presented to the Lake County Grand Jury and she remains incarcerated in lieu of bond in the Lake County Jail.

Kevin D. Knoefel was arrested on August 9, 2013, by the Willoughby Hills Police Department with the assistance of U. S. Marshals from the Cleveland Office.

At the same time, a search warrant was executed at his Chagrin Drive, Willoughby Hills, Ohio residence.
