Some east side construction leads to plenty of driver headaches

It may not be as bad as what thousands of commuters had to deal with when Captain America crews came into town, but, construction on the east side is enough to give plenty of drivers a headache.

"It's just a mess," says Belinda Southall.

Southall is fed up with the construction.

This week the Chester Avenue resurfacing project got underway. Crews are also working in the eastbound/westbound outside lanes between East 55th and East 93rd Streets.

Superior is getting a facelift too, along with Cedar Avenue which will receive a total street rehab that includes sidewalks and curbs.

"This is Cleveland. There's a construction season," says Michael Cox Cleveland's Director of Public Works. "You don't want to wait for the snow to hit us and wait another year after the funding comes in."

The city says crews have to get the work done before the end of October when the asphalt companies close. But some drivers we talked to say it's no big deal.

"It's a problem but I'm glad to see them do something to the street, city stuff like that. It takes more time to get around but I can always give a little bit more time," says driver Travis Halcrombe.

Something Belinda says she's well aware of, but says she's had enough of the construction chaos. On a level of one-to-ten she says her frustration level is about an eight.

East 9th Street will be closed from Euclid Avenue to Prospect Avenue starting Monday August 12, 2013 at 6 AM through Saturday August 17, 2013.
