CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Kids In Flight, the Cleveland-based charitable organization that gives free airplane rides for critically ill children, is among the list of organizations left hanging by the shuttering of Sammy's restaurant and catering.

The organization says that Sammy's cashed a $1000 check on July 24, to cater the their golf outing fundraiser for Sept. 19, at Manakiki Golf Course.

"It looks like we have no food and we are out $1,000," said Barbara Martic, Kids In Fight president. "This is a devastating loss for a small organization like ours. We are dependent on these fundraising events like our golf outing to generate money for our organization."

Martic said Manakiki golf course has been frantically trying to work with Kids In Flight to find a solution.

"It's too late to cancel the golf outing," said Martic. "We've had a good response but are still looking for sponsors.

The most recent event was "Wings of Wonder," on June 22, at Burke Lakefront.

Volunteer pilots gave more than 75 airplane rides, free of charge to more than 75 ill children and their families.

Michael Martic says he's been contacting Sammy's with no luck, "I can't get anyone to call me back, not able to speak to one person."

Anyone interested in participating or donating to the golf outing should send an email to nfo@kidsinflight.org. Donations can be mailed to Kids In Flight, PO Box 5234, Willowick, OH 44095.
