CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

New charges have been filed against a suspect who police say caused a horrific accident that happened in July on Cleveland's east side.

19 Action News has learned new details about what happened when a suspected crook in a stolen truck slammed into four cars at E. 79th and Kinsman after a pursuit by Cleveland Police, leaving several people injured.

Investigators say the chase started after the stolen truck, driven by 65-year-old Eldridge Colvin, blew through a busy intersection at E. 55th St., running a red light and speeding.

Police pulled out and started to chase Colvin, they say he sped away and moments later struck four cars.

During the chase investigators say the patrol car was several blocks behind Colvin when they started the pursuit and when he crashed.

Records show that Colvin has a lengthy criminal record, he's been indicted two dozen times dating back to 1972.

With eight new felony charges including vehicular assault, aggravated robbery, and grand theft auto, Colvin could end up back in prison for a long time.
