Bedford Heights inmate captured after jail break

BEDFORD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

A Bedford Heights inmate escaped from police custody on Monday, August 12, 2013.  The incident happened at 6:15 a.m. after a male inmate assaulted a female corrections officer before slipping out of an emergency exit at the City Hall jail. 

Chief Marotta reports that officers were assisted by the canine unit to search the Heskett Middle School before tracking the inmate in a wooded area 300 yards from the facility. 

The unidentified inmate was taken into custody at 7:14 a.m. and the female corrections officer had to be taken to a local hospital following the assault.
