Fire destroys Moultrie correctional facility

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

The Southeast Corrections office in Moultrie is being forced to move following a fire over the weekend. The electrical fire broke out early Sunday morning.

The blaze destroyed the multiple areas of the office including its drug screening area, the main entrance, computers and other electronics.

A new facility on Main Street is expected to be used at least temporarily as of next week. Individuals who did had to report to the old office are still required to check in.

"We are not going to count that against them," said Supervising Probation Office Andre Hampton. "Basically what we are going to do is allow them to still call, make payments, they are going to have to call, we will reroute them to another facility."
