Yu Darvish just shy of a no hitter. Texas Rangers hurler Yu Darvish was "close but no cigar" Monday as he flirted with a no hitter against the Houston Astros. Darvish had a career high 15 strikeouts in the 2-1 victory for the Rangers.
Darvish had a perfect game going into the sixth inning, until a controversial call by home plate umpire Ron Kulpa. Darvish and the Rangers thought they had a called strike three against the Astros Jonathan Villar to end the inning. The call resulted in the ejection of his catcher A.J. Pierzynski.
Yu, later gave up a solo homerun in the 8th to lose the no hitter.
The Rangers have had six no hitters in team history, the last was a perfect game by Kenny Rogers in 1994.
