STOW, OH (WOIO) -

The Stow Police Department previously reported a dog was shot with a pellet gun and killed by a neighbor on July 27, 2013, around 2 p.m.

On August 13, 2013, James Matthew Tibbs, 41, turned himself into the Stow Police Department, and was charged with discharging firearms, a first degree misdemeanor, and killing or injuring animals, a second degree misdemeanor.

After seeing an article in the paper about the shooting of the dog, a neighbor's pet, a witness came forward and reported seeing Tibbs shoot the dog. Officers met with Tibbs at his residence.

Tibbs said that he and his son were shooting a pellet gun in their yard when the dog approached them aggressively.  He then shot the dog.

Tibbs was released on a personal recognizance bond.

He is scheduled to appear at Stow Municipal Court on Friday, August 16th, at 8:30 a.m.
