I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that Browns coach Rob Chudzinski refused on Friday to acknowledge that Brandon Weeden is their starting quarterback. I like Chud, so don't take what I'm about to rant about as saying they should get rid of him, but I think on this one issue he is starting to look silly.
Brandon Weeden gets every rep with the first team. Jason Campbell and Brian Hoyer do not get reps with the first team. Weeden has never taken a snap with the second team offense. This is not a competition. A quarterback competition is when one guy starts the first game and the next guy starts the second game. Not this.
Is there any harm in this? No. It's not going to hold them back at all. My problem with it is that it just looks ridiculous. Weeden is putting up great preseason numbers and getting all the reps of a starter. If you expect me to believe you don't view him as the starter, you might as well ask me to believe that we really did stage the moon landing and that 9/11 was an inside job. What kind of whacko could watch the Browns this Training Camp and preseason and not see Weeden was the starter?
A wise man once told me "don't pee on my head and then tell me it's raining." Apologies for the crude nature of that, but it sums it up perfectly. If you know what it is, and we all know what it is, don't expect anybody to actually believe when you say it's something else. This is not a competition. Weeden is the starter. Can they just say so?
