Black Family Reunion Celebration continues at Riverfront Park

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Thousands of people gathered at Riverfront Park on Saturday for the 25th Annual Midwest Regional Black Family Reunion Celebration (BFRC), an event from Friday, August 16 until Sunday, August 18.

Started in 1989, the BFRC has grown to be one of Cincinnati's largest family-focused events, attracting more than 50,000 people.

The BFRC was started as a way of bringing the community together to focus on the traditional values of the African American family.

Gerald Lee of College Hill says it's good to see the community coming together.

"Just family being together. Just everyone in the city coming together, being a family all in unity and you know just stopping all the violence and showing much love. Enjoy life, enjoy the Black family reunion," said Lee.

Since Friday, BFRC event-goers experienced programming at different locations, including a job fair, heritage breakfast, parade, talent show, and a gospel and R&B concert featuring Lakeside, an R&B and Funk group from Dayton, Ohio.

Before gospel singer Jaylen Newman took the stage, he told FOX19 what the experience meant for him.

"I just get so happy that I'm here today performing in front of people and it's a blessing and an honor to be here standing," said Newman.

Sunday's events will wrap up with a Sunday morning church service at Zion Community Church at 11:00 a.m. and a Gospel Concert featuring Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers.
