CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A briefing of the kidnapping of Kenya Pierce and the death of her captor Derrick Hudson took place Monday in the chief's briefing room on the 9th floor of police headquarters.

It was just before 7:00 Monday morning when police got a tip call that the car the entire community had been on the lookout for all weekend was on Mapledale near W. 42 Street.

Police arrived and in a short time heard a pop sound, a gunshot.

They ordered Hudson out of the car but he was in the back seat and had killed himself. His captive Kenya Pierce was in the front seat.  She got out and neighbors tell us walked to the police car and to safety.

This entire drama began on Saturday when police say Hudson shot his aunt and uncle on the east side and took Pierce hostage.

What is interesting is that Hudson spent 10 years in prison for killing Kenya Pierce's boyfriend all those years ago. He had been a previous boyfriend. Their current relationship is unknown.
