CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The car still carrying the body of Derrick Hudson was loaded onto a flatbed Monday to be taken to the coroner's office for forensic and other tests.

"I seen the policemen surrounding the car saying put your hands out the window and actually that was it," said a neighbor.

By the time police approached Derrick Hudson's car he was dead. His hostage Kenya Pierce was freed and later transferred to an ambulance for treatment of a possible broken arm at Metro.

A passer by had spotted the car and called police. A weekend blitz of media, billboards, and ODOT signs was key.

"Those billboards were also up in the surrounding states. As this case proved later they were in the Michigan area so that's exactly why we got it out as wide as we can," said Chief Michael McGrath.

"We assumed he was headed back to Cleveland from Detroit at which time we doubled our investigative team," said Steven Anthony, FBI Special Agent in Charge.

We know Hudson and Pierce had contact since his December release from prison, it is unclear if they were dating or he was stalking her.

"I knew that at some point somebody would see the vehicle and we'd get additional intelligence as to where it would be," added said Steven Anthony.

From the video you probably noticed that the car Derrick Hudson was in was parked at an angle, almost as if to head out.  What we don't know is if he was ordering Kenya Pierce to take off, facing a cadre of police headed the other way.
