CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Police responded to the scene after a shooting at 143rd and St. Clair just before 6 p.m.

They located an 18-year-old male victim and EMS transported him to MetroHealth Medical Center to be treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.  His condition is not known at this time.

Shelton Rosser was inside his home and came out to see what was happening, "I heard about 4 or 5 gunshots."

At least 6 bullet casings were found scattered around the street.   Vernon Jones said he saw the victim lying in the field behind his house.  He was shot in the chest.

Jones said, "I'm thinking I hope he is still alive."

Then inches away this daycare, Circle Tyme, kids were inside. Terry Grays was picking up his grandson and at the time there were many teens lingering around.

Witnesses say the shooter was young too,  and didn't care.   "Evidently they don't." said Grays.  " I just hope it gets better."

Investigators say a camera may have captured the shooting.   Cops were looking in the sewers for the weapon.

A city crew was there to remove man hole covers and sort through the debris.

Police are thinking they might find the gun and connect it to whoever  shot  the 18-year-old during the busiest part of the day.

Rosser knows this neighborhood isn't safe-- but he is mad about this one, "There's a daycare here and that doesn't make any sense".  He adds,  " It's kids and bullets have no names."
