Akron, OH (WOIO) - The No. 8 University of Akron men's soccer team will play its first of two exhibition matches Tuesday night when Marshall comes to FirstEnergy Stadium – Cub Cadet Field. The Zips and Thundering Herd will kick off at 7 p.m. ET.
Tickets for Tuesday night's match and all Zips home games can be purchased online anytime at ZipsTickets.com, or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Mondays through Fridays by either calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets).
The Zips went 18-1-3 last fall en route to advancing to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season. UA's roster features five returning starters, including top goal-scorer Reinaldo Brenes and veteran defender Bryan Gallego, nine returning letterwiners and 13 newcomers.
Marshall posted an overall record of 11-5-1 in 2012, including a 3-5-0 mark in Conferernce USA. The Herd got off to a fast start last fall (10-1-1) but went just 1-4 the rest of the way, missing the postseason.
Akron began preseason camp last Wednesday and continues to prepare for its regular-season opener at the College of Charleston Tournament from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1. There, the Zips will take on the host Cougars and Furman.
Following Tuesday night's match, the Zips will travel to Saint Louis for their final preseason match. Akron and the Billikens will square off this Saturday (Aug. 24) at 8 p.m. ET.
