Robbery suspect killed by homeowner in Hamilton

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -

Police say that a robbery suspect is dead and a victim is hospitalized after an attempted robbery at a Hamilton residence late Thursday evening.

Authorities responded to 1860 Parrish Avenue in Hamilton around 11:05 p.m. after a 911 phone call gave details of an attempted robbery.

The Hamilton Police Department says that Chad Gabbard, 44, entered the home of a Robert D. Shoemaker, 38, and engaged in an altercation involving a gun and a sharp object.

Investigators say that Gabbard stabbed Shoemaker three times, and Shoemaker defended himself by shooting and killing Gabbard.

Shoemaker was transported to University West Chester and is being treated his injuries. His condition has not yet been released.

Authorities say Shoemaker is not facing charges.
