SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Residents in a Springfield Township neighborhood have mixed feelings about a new playground being planned for the area.

"I don't want to see teenagers take it over and everybody end up being afraid to go there," said John Ringger. "That's my only concern."

Ringger says his property, which borders the future park, has been vandalized in the past. He and his wife have lived in the Fox Run subdivision for more than 20 years. Other than his one concern, Ringger says he supports the endeavor. So do his wife and neighbor.

"I think we need a place, a safe place for our children in the neighborhood to be able to come to," said Beth Ringger.

"Our bus stop is real close to it, so I even thought we could kind of hang out while waiting for the bus," said Ann Bailey. "It's going to be awesome, can't wait."

A couple other people who didn't want to give their names say they would prefer the land remain empty.

But the township is moving forward. Trustee Andy Glenn says the purchase of equipment will cost less than $50,000.
