Police still searching for driver in fatal hit and run

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police say the man responsible for a hit and run accident that killed a man in April still needs to be put behind bars.

The family of James Steele has been carrying his memory in their broken hearts since he was killed in a head-on accident last April.

Police say the driver of a tan Chevy Tahoe was heading east on Western Avenue when he clipped one car, then crossed over into the opposite lane and crashed into the vehicle carrying Steele, his wife, and their grandson.

With no new leads on the case, Steele's family has reached out to Toledo Police through Facebook, asking for the public's help.

"This family is grieving, from all accounts," said Sgt. Kevin Braun. "I've spoken to some of them personally, and Mr. Steele was very beloved. They want answers, and they deserve answers, and they deserve closure."

If anyone has information that could lead them to the driver involved, they should call Crimestopper at 419-255-1111. Tips could be eligible for a cash reward.
