Mom in home alone kids case investigated many times

CLEVELAND, OH -

A 19 Action News investigation has found, a mother has been investigated for bad parenting more than a half-dozen times, and she's now under investigation again after social workers say five brothers were found home alone.

The boys, all under the age of ten, were rescued by Cleveland police Tuesday afternoon at East 68th and Hough. A neighbor told 19 Action News, the boys had been home alone all day.

We had gone to the home because the night before -- after midnight -- a 9 year old girl fell off the roof. She's ok. But as we raised questions, the landlord called police about the unsupervised children.

We checked with Cuyahoga County social workers.

In 2008, four complaints were filed against that mother for neglect, and living conditions. 2010 there were two more complaints and in 2012 another.

And records show criminal charges for child endangering and for kids not in school.

The apartment is now boarded shut by the landlord.

We tried calling mom, but one number listed on a police report was disconnected and a woman answering another number told us it was a wrong number.

We're not naming the mother until we get a copy of new charges. Cleveland Police were getting papers to have the mother appear in city court.

Police had even called the mother. A report says she wouldn't cooperate with them.

Cuyahoga County social workers now have the kids in foster care.

Why hadn't the kids been taken away before? The county says, if possible, it always tries to keep a family together. Until now, this mom had always done just enough.
