BOONE COUNTY, KY (FOX19) -

The former mayor of Walton, KY received jail time and several years of probation Wednesday for abuse of public trust.

Phillip Trzop, who submitted a letter of resignation in May to Walton City Council, also served as the General Manager of the Boone County Water District and was charged in November 2012 with abuse of public trust.

He was fired from the position after Investigators say he allegedly sold $34,000 worth of scrap metal belonging to the Boone County Water District.

On Wednesday, Trzop was sentenced to 60 days in jail and five years probation in Boone County Circuit Court.

He has until Friday evening to turn himself into the Boone County Jail.
