Rob Chudzinski has seen the game tapes, and he still has his quarterback's back, saying the Browns as a team were "just a little bit off", and that the loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday came down to a handful of plays.
"The passing, the routes...guys stumbling in the open field. All of those made a difference", Chudzinski told the media during his Monday press conference at Browns headquarters.
19 Action News specifically asked the head coach if Weeden, who went 26 of 53 for 289 yards with three interceptions and only one TD toss, had trouble reading the Dolphins' defense, and if the speed of the NFL is too fast for his second-year quarterback.
'The protection issues were there", Chudzinski told Tony Zarrella, referring to Miami's six sacks, five of which came in the second half. "But if anybody doubted Brandon's resiliency, he answered that question again. He showed his toughness, and kept coming back".
Chudzinski also said he isn't keeping Weeden "on a short leash", adding that everybody's working within a new system, and need to keep getting better.
