Royal Flush! Indians win again

Posted: Updated:

Cleveland (WOIO) - Another dramatic night for the Indians, but another half-step forward in the Wild Card race, as the Tribe held off the Kansas City Royals on Monday night, 4-3 at Progressive Field.

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched a strong game, going seven innings with 10 strikeouts and only one run, earning his 11th victory of the year.

Cody Allen came in the top of the eighth inning, and promptly gave up a two run homer to left fielder Alex Gordon.

Despite loading the bases in the 9th, Chris Perez was able to close it out, earning him his twenty-third save of the year.

Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez got his first major league hit on a single to left field in the bottom of the third inning. Adrubal Cabrera, Carlos Santana, and Yan Gomes all had solo home runs in the game.

The Indians and Royals will match up again Tuesday night, with Zach McCallister getting the call on the mound. The Tribe now just a game and a half in back of Tampa Bay for the final wild card slot.
