Cleveland (WOIO) - The Indians are still very much alive in the Wild Card chase, but they're not making life any easier on themselves, falling to the Royals again on Wednesday afternoon, 6-2 at Progressive Field.
James Shields was the story, giving up two runs in the first, and then shutting the Indians down over the next seven innings. Shields went eight innings, giving up only two hits and striking out seven.
Alex Gordon staked the Royals to a quick lead by homering off Scott Kazmir on the first pitch of the game. The Royals led 3-0 by the end of the inning, before the Indians answered. Michael Brantley's two-run single cut the lead to 3-2 before the Tribe bats went silent.
The Royals added three more runs, and left town taking two out of three.
The loss leaves the Indians two games back in the Wild Card race.
