The tragic events of September 11, 2001 were observed in a variety of ways across the Tri-State on Wednesday, from inspirational songs to community service projects.

In Green Township, trustees held a service for the dedication of a 9/11 memorial.

Attendees observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. in memory of the exact moment 12 years ago when an airline struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. A piece of the tower is now in Green Township.

"I decided it was time that we get this out and allow the public to view it, to touch it, to see it and kind of be a memorial of what happened those years ago," explained Green Township Trustee Rocky Boiman.

About 30 Delta airline employees joined a national movement in Cheviot to turn a day of sorrow into a day of service by helping Habitat for Humanity build a home.

Students at the College Hill Fundamental Academy commemorated 9/11 by giving inspirational readings and singing original songs.

"We are remembering the attacks of September 11th on this nation. It is and will forever remain a day that changed our nation," Principal Monica Battle stated during the ceremony.

The melody and lyrics to the song 'Reach for the Stars' were written by College Hill students, and the song is the school's theme this year.

In addition, the Cincinnati Reds held a day of remembrance at Great American Ball Park prior to their game against the Chicago Cubs.
