New way to ID criminals

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department is expanding a new way to identify criminals called iris scanning.

Deputies can use a device to look into the eyes of suspects and identify them.

This is similar to identifying through fingerprints.

The sheriff's department has been using the program in the jail, but is now expanding the program to have more units being used on the streets and sex offender unit.

30 deputies went through the training on Thursday.
