Editorial: The Mayor's trolley tour

(WOIO) -

You may not have noticed, but there's an important political race taking place in our town.

Lost in the back-to-school rush and the start of a new Browns season is the fact that we'll be electing a mayor in Cleveland in less than two months.

Incumbent Frank Jackson may be the hands-on favorite right now, but he's not taking anything for granted.  Last week, the mayor hosted a four-hour media trolley car tour of the city's neighborhoods kind of a way to ballyhoo his accomplishments.

Meanwhile, challenger Ken Lanci has been knocking on doors and attending street fairs for months trying to gain traction in a so-far lackluster race. Frustrated by the lack of media attention, Lanci has even resorted to hanging his campaign signs upside down.

Both candidates deserve to be heard and voters owe it to themselves to get engaged. Jobs, crime, and the schools are just some of the issues that need to be front and center as voters decide which man is better suited to move the city forward.

Write and let me know what you think. I'm Bill Applegate.
