Trent needs to carry the load

Posted: Updated:

Cleveland (WOIO) - September 26, 2010. Peyton Hillis ran over and around the Ravens, in Baltimore, racking up 144 yards, and giving Browns fans hope that they'd finally found their franchise running back.

That feeling would evaporate quicker than you can say "strep throat" a year later, of course, but on that September day in 2010, the Browns proved that you can run on the Ravens.

Three seasons later, they'll need to do it again to have any chance of upsetting the Super Bowl champs. Trent Richardson needs to be a workhorse in this game. He needs at least 25 touches on the ground, and about five more in the air.

It looked as though that was the plan last Sunday, as Richardson ran for 26 yards on his first four carries, before suddenly, and stunningly, becoming a forgotten man. Even Trent admitted on Thursday that he was surprised he wasn't even on the field in some key third-down situations in the opening-day loss to the Dolphins.

That can't happen again. Especially against a team that's been licking its' own wounds for ten days, and has a lot to prove in its' home opener.
