KENWOOD, OH (FOX19) -

The initial construction work on The Kenwood Collection – the retail and office project being developed where Kenwood Towne Place was - has begun.

The first phase of the project includes the completion and repair of site electrical work in the surface parking lot and the restoration of the unfinished detention pond and landscape along Galbraith Road, said David Birdsall, President of Phillips Edison's Strategic Investment Funds.

The initial construction phase is scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the holiday shopping season in November.

The development and construction of Kenwood Towne Place was interrupted in 2008 due to the project's financial problems.

The Kenwood Collection consists of 300,000- square- feet of upscale retail and approximately 200,000-square-feet of office space.

Current retail tenants include Crate & Barrel, The Container Store and Mitchell's Salon & Day Spa.

Neace Lukens, one of the region's largest insurance companies, has agreed to lease one of the seven floors in the planned office tower.

Additional construction to upgrade and complete the parking garage will begin later this year with work on the project's office tower slated for the spring of 2014.
