District officials, parents discuss student stress in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Leaders in the Springfield school district are helping parents whose children are experiencing stress.

A parent information night was held Thursday, featuring a panel of health professionals from the area who talked to parents about stress in students. Professionals from Harbor Behavioral, the Zepf Center, and UTMC Kobaker Center were all present.

Matt Geha, director of Federal Programs for the district, says they are responding to tragedies that have occurred in school systems across the country, where children have harmed themselves or others. Geha says these tragedies often have to do with stress, and children not knowing how to handle it.

"When you can eliminate stress from the educational arena, I think it helps all children succeed, and stress is everywhere and caused by anything," he said.
