New homes selling quickly in Perrysburg

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The amount of newly-constructed homes in Perrysburg is skyrocketing.

New homes are selling before the grass can even grow in. Walls are being lifted and house listings are coming down as part of a housing boom.

"They're building a very nice product for the price," said Carl Wisz, owner of Remax Executives.

In a subdivision off Fort Meigs Road, new houses start out at $240,000, and people are buying lots before construction is even finished.

"The builders out there, they were able to build houses in a down market when other builders couldn't get money," Wisz said. "They went out there and invested in it and put product up, and they came and bought it."

Even more development is planned. Another 230 homes are expected to be built. People who live in the area say it's the best mix between city and country living.

"There is a lot of open space, and there are a lot of people that want to get out to a suburban, semi-rural area," said Dennis Thayer, who has lived in Perrysburg for 37 years. "I think that's what they're gonna keep doing."

As the market continues to pick up, realtors say neighbors can expect to hear more sounds of construction.
