Ancient exercise helping arthritis sufferers

Posted: Updated:
HOLLAND, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Folks with arthritis are turning to an ancient exercise to deal with their painful condition.

It's Tai Chi.

Dr. Paul Lam is a leading expert on the topic and conducted a Tai Chi workshop Sunday in Holland.

Tai Chi originated in ancient china.

It consists of a series of slow, fluid gentle movements with very slow breathing to aid concentration.

Dr. Lam says Tai Chi can be done almost anywhere and is proven to relieve arthritis pain.

"It helps people to heal, to feel better about themselves and studies show it helps relieve pain, helps people do more things, healthy in every aspect," said Dr. Lam.

Dr. Lam says many organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation of America, support Tai Chi as being beneficial to health.
