Demolition begins on Lime City School

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The old Lime City School is set to come down.

The former school has been sitting vacant on State Route 20 and Lime City Road since the 1990s.

Some demolition has already begun. Old students are trying to capture the moment before the building is completely knocked down. They say the former elementary school is part of their local history.

The building has been there since the 1950s, and only had four classrooms. After sitting vacant for 20 years, it has become an eyesore for the community.

No plans have been made for what will happen with the property after demolition, but neighbors are chiming in about what they would like to see.

"Stuff for kids," suggested Barbara Gunn, who would like to see a park there. "It's close to the police station so older kids couldn't hang out there and cause problems."

Anyone looking to pick up a memento of the building can stop by and pick up a brick. Township officials are giving them away, but current residents get priority.
