STRONGSVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

As a contractor Chris Norton works hard. And when it's lunch time he enjoys a good smoke but in Strongsville, that is coming to an end.

"I think you ought to be able to smoke outdoor where ever you want," said Chris.

The city has a new policy, a tobacco free workplace. This means if you are on municipal property, inside or out, there are no butts are allowed. The policy includes all tobacco even the kind you chew.

Dana Osborne a smoker from Cleveland says, "at home I  can."  She adds, "in my house or on my property".

But on Strongsville's property it's light's out and the city is telling you in writing.

The signs are now being posted and most will be up by midnight.

Strongsville resident Andrew Corban is not opposed to the ban, ''I just really don't care cause I don't smoke. It's ok it's fine."

If you do smoke, you can't do it at the recreation center or in the parks or in the parking lot or even in your own car.

Chris thinks the policy has gone a little too far and thinks the city should "butt" out of a smoker's joy.

"I don't agree with that," added Chris. "It's your car. It doesn't matter where it's at."

Now, because this is just a policy, they City of Strongsville will be enforcing it to their employees. But, visitors will be asked politely to put out the smokes.

The ban does not affect the Strongsville Mall, shopping plazas or Pat Catan football stadium. The ban only applies to city property.
