CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Browns QB Brian Hoyer is out for the season with a torn ACL. The injury will require surgery.

Hoyer's knee was hurt during the Browns' second drive of the game on Thursday night, when he went down awkwardly and was hit during a feet-first slide by Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso. He did not return to Thursday night's game.

Hoyer, a hometown hero who played for local powerhouse St. Ignatius in high school, had quickly become a fan favorite, winning his first two games as the Browns' starting quarterback.

The Browns have won three in a row and are in first place in the AFC North.
