RAVENNA TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

The Portage County Sheriff's Office confirms that a 15-year-old girl was killed Sunday night in a train accident that involved her family's SUV in Ravenna Township.

The fatal accident occurred around 5:51 p.m. on October 6, on South Prospect Street near Summit Road at a private railroad crossing.

It is reported that there is no gate at that particular crossing.

Portage County sheriff's deputies said the teen girl was driving and that her father and four younger sisters were also in the car.

According to deputies, the girl became nervous while crossing the tracks when the train was headed right for them.

The train hit the vehicle and the teen driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her father and four younger sisters, ages ranging between 7 and 15, were all injured.

Deputies said the father was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital and the girls were taken to Akron Children's Hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The Portage County Sheriff's Department and Norfolk Southern Railway are conducting the investigation.
