CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A 65-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record was sentenced to prison on Tuesday.

Eldridge Colvin was ordered to serve six years for causing a multi-vehicle crash on Cleveland's east side in July. The accident left a teenage girl severely injured.

On July 15, Colvin stole a Ford van from the vicinity of West 6th and St. Clair. As officers were responding to that location, they received a broadcast that the van was found on E. 9th and Broadway and that Colvin had stolen a Ford F-150 from there.

Officers located the stolen truck driven by Colvin and pursued it. Colvin ran red lights and after running a red light at Kinsman and E. 79th, crashed into five vehicles.

A 15-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles was severely injured when a large chunk of sandstone flew through the passenger window from the bed of the stolen truck. The rock hit the victim, causing major head trauma, a fractured jaw, orbital fractures and neck, back and soft tissue injuries. Other victims were treated and released.

Colvin tried to flee the crash scene, but was arrested. He has a long record of similar activity.

A statement from the teenage crash victim was read in court by Judge Sutula. In the statement, the victim detailed the facial injuries she received.

"Strangers continually ask what happened to my face, people stare at me whenever I go out in public.  I was unable to finish the last 3 weeks of the first job I ever had."

During the sentencing on Tuesday, Judge Sutula called Colvin "a menace."
