CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Government, civic and business leaders cut the ribbon Tuesday on Phase one of the Global Center for Health Innovation.

With the ribbon cutting, the Global Center for Health Innovation has gone from conception to construction to completion.

"Northeast Ohio is well on it's way to becoming the nation's medical capitol if not the world's medical capitol," said Cuyahoga County Executive Ed Fitzgerald.

"This facility is a perfect connection between our healthcare industry and our technology and innovation," added Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson.

All four of the city's hospital systems joined in the cooperative effort to make the center a reality.

The center has already created 3,300 construction jobs and so far one hundred permanent ones too. When all of it's tenants are moved in there will be about 1,500 permanent jobs.

Over the next two years the G.C.H.I. along with the new Cleveland Convention Center next door have events scheduled that are projected to bring $166 million to the local economy.

"The Global Center for Health Innovation is the finest medical showplaces in the world" said Dr. Toby Cosgrove, CEO and President of the Cleveland Clinic.
