$49,000 watch stolen from jewelry store

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Detectives are looking for a man that ran off with an expensive watch after trying it on at a jewelry store.

According to reports, the suspect asked to view a Rolex watch valued at $48,850 at Lee Michaels Jewelry Store in the Mall of Louisiana.  When he had it on his wrist, he asked to compare it to a $60,000 watch, the salesperson hesitated and he took off running.

Deputies say a second store employee was unable to stop the suspect, who escaped the mall via an employee hallway.

The theft happened around 5:45 p.m. on October 1st.

The suspect was clean shaven and was wearing a dark green t-shirt and blue jeans.  He is between 5'10" and 6' tall.
