Orwell: Registered sex offenders banned from celebrating Halloween

Posted: Updated:
ORWELL, OH (WOIO) - -

Registered sex offenders are now banned from celebrating Halloween in the Village of Orwell.

The Orwell City Manager tells 19 Action News that council members unanimously passed an ordinance during a meeting on Tuesday night. The ruling went into effect immediately.

The public was invited to offer opinions on the measure, but no one objected.

Sex offenders are not allowed to answer the door to children trick or treating on Halloween. Other restrictions, such as exterior Halloween decorations on the home or front yard, are also forbidden.

Anyone who violates the newly passed ordinance will be charged.
