STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Three people in Statesville, including a high school and a middle school student, were arrested after a complaint that chocolate containing marijuana was being sold at school.

On Monday, October 7, Officers from the Statesville Police Department Narcotics Division responded to Statesville High School in reference to a complaint of a student selling drugs in the form of candy on school property.

During the investigation, officers say they learned the items being sold were pieces of white and dark chocolate that contained marijuana.

As a result of this information, a student at the high school was charged with sale and deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation also led officers to Statesville Middle School, where a student was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The officers then conducted a search warrant at a home related to the incident and found several pieces of paraphernalia and other contraband, including wrappers from marijuana candy bars.

Mary Blackwelder had obtained the marijuana candy on a recent trip to California. She then brought it back and gave it to minors in the home, police said.

The items are considered for medical use in California, but are illegal to possess in North Carolina.

Blackwelder was arrested and charged with two counts each of sale and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to sell marijuana, child abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She was taken to the Iredell County Jail and placed under a $25,000 secured bond.
