ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA (WJLA/CNN) - More than 30,000 runners hit the streets for the 38th Annual Marine Corps Marathon.
The 26-point-two-mile race started in Arlington, Virginia.
Runners made their way past national monuments in Washington before finishing back in Arlington at the Marine Corps War Memorial.
Thirty-three-year-old Girma Bedada of Georgia finished first in under two-and-a-half hours.
This year the marathon featured tighter security, including random bag checks, in the wake of the Boston marathon bombings.
