More than 40 animals taken from Owensboro home

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Daviess County Animal Control and volunteers from the Daviess County Animal Shelter unloaded more than 30 dogs and a handful of chickens and rabbits at the Daviess County Animal Shelter Wednesday afternoon.

Animal control says the animals were living in poor conditions at an Owensboro home and were surrendered by the owner of the property.

"The dogs were heavily infested with fleas. Several of them had open sores where they had been scratching and digging at themselves because of the flea infestation. We saw a lot of long toe nails," said Ashley Clark, Daviess County Animal Shelter Director, "We saw dogs with really bad teeth."

Volunteers gave the dogs baths, log them into the system, and assisted veterinarians. The Daviess County Animal Shelter says the dogs will eventually need to be adopted out to make room at the already full shelter.

"Bringing in 31 more dogs is really putting the shelter in a bind. We're going to have to make some tough choices this week about some dogs who have been here for a while," said Clark.

The Daviess County Animal Shelter is asking the public to donate dog food, blankets, bedding, crates, towels, dog dishes, and money that will go towards medicine. If you would like to donate you can email the shelter at DCACANIMALS@yahoo.com
