BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

One person is in custody after police received a call of a man with a gun at the VFW post on South Main Street in Bowling Green Friday morning.

Major Tony Hetrick of Bowling Green Police says the mother of a woman who was bartending at the post called police, saying her daughter felt threatened by her estranged husband and that he may have a gun. The couple has had domestic violence issues in the past.

Police responded and closed off South Main Street from Napoleon Road to Carr Avenue.

"There was supposedly a firearm involved, and they wanted to make sure the community was safe, that no one ventured into the area unknown to what was going on," explained Hetrick.

Matthew Smith was arrested without incident when police arrived, but did not have a gun on his person. He has been charged with aggravated menacing.

No one was injured in the incident.

Kenwood Elementary School went on lockdown after getting a call from BGPD around 11:45 a.m. Todd Cramer with Bowling Green City Schools says at 12:20 p.m. they were told the threat was no longer a concern. The school is no longer on lockdown. Notifications were sent to parents, including e-mails and phone calls.
