CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A clerk at a Cleveland Dollar General store has quit his job due to safety concerns.

Deondre Lester was working at the store at East 116th Street and Forest when he was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday evening. The armed suspect fled after grabbing an unknown amount of cash.

"I'm just glad to be alive," says Lester. "It's really not worth getting killed over $8 an hour."

Managing to keep a cool head with a gun pointed at it, Lester decided then and there to quit his job to better secure his future.

"It's not worth it when you have friends and family and people who care about you," adds Lester.

The robber remains at large.

Lester tells 19 Action News this is the second Dollar General robbery this week. The St. Clair store was also robbed on Monday.

If you have any information on these robberies, please call Crimestoppers. Tips can remain anonymous.
