Cleveland homeowner fatally shoots suspect during violent home invasion robbery

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A deadly home invasion on Cleveland's northeast side.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. on Rudyard Road.

19 Action News has learned the 24-year-old homeowner returned home and was approached by two men in his driveway who attempted to rob him. The suspects forced the homeowner inside the home. The homeowner reports he was beaten and pistol whipped.

At one point, the victim managed to get his personal weapon and fired in the direction of the suspects, hitting both.

One male suspect was pronounced dead on scene by EMS. The second male suspect was arrested a short time later, about a block away, with a gunshot wound to the knee. The second suspect remains under arrest and is at Metro being treated for injuries.

The homeowner is a CCW permit holder.

The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit, along with the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene for investigation. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the final cause of death. This matter will be further investigated.
