BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

A Battery Creek High School employee has been arrested on one count of sexual battery of a student after an investigation revealed inappropriate conduct.

The mother of a 16-year-old Battery Creek High School student contacted sheriff's deputies Thursday morning after the mother found a series of communications on her son's phone between her son and an individual named Megan Snipes.

The mother recognized the name as that of the school's psychologist, whom her son had been seeing regularly. In light of the sexual overtone of the conversations, she requested to file a report at the sheriff's office.

Investigators made contact with both the student and the suspect, 29-year-old Megan Michelle Snipes. The investigation confirmed that on Oct. 18, Snipes engaged in a sexual act with the victim in the area of Bob Jones Field on Jones Avenue in Beaufort, according to the BCSO.

Snipes was affiliated with a public secondary school in an official capacity for the Beaufort County School District at the time of the incident.

The incident was reportedly consensual with no aggravated coercion or force.

Snipes was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center where she will remain awaiting a bond hearing. The investigation is ongoing at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact either Investigator Sgt. C. Wilcon at 843.255.3409.
