Berea, OH (WOIO) - As the Browns limp towards the finish line of yet another four or five-win season, head coach Rob Chudzinski is already looking ahead, saying he believes he has a core group of players who will finally help turn things around for this franchise.
"We have, as I've said before, there's hope. I think that we made strides in some areas", Chudzinski said during his Monday press conference.
"Certainly after yesterday's game (a 24-13 loss to the Jets), I'm not happy and nobody's happy with the outcome. But overall, I think that there's a group of guys and there's a core of what we're doing that's going to be the foundation of going into the future. Again, I'm very confident in our future and the success that we'll have in the future. We have a lot of work to do and there's no doubt in that. Our record, I'm not immune to what our record is. It's not good enough and it needs to be better and we'll improve on that."
That core includes wide receiver Josh Gordon, who had a breakout season, quarterback Brian Hoyer, tight end Jordan Cameron, perennial Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas, and future Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden. But will it include safety T.J. Ward and center Alex Mack, both of whom are about to hit the free agent market? And who will the Browns add through the draft? They certainly will target a quarterback, wide receiver, and offensive tackle.
So many questions, as the Browns head into their final game, but the head coach has "hope". After more than a decade of bad football, that's more than we can say for some fans.
