CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

We're putting a spotlight on three life-saving rescues made in two fires in one day by a group of Cleveland Firefighters.  Those rescues take on extra meaning in this holiday season.

Last Wednesday could've been a deadly day.

The crew from E. 152nd and St. Clair got a call about a man trapped in a fire blazing at a home on Rudyard. Firefighters rescued that guy.

Then a short time later, the same crew carried out more rescues.

This time they went to a house fire on E. 139th St. They found a blind man inside and a woman passed out.

Firefighter Eric Blake said,  "To know that you helped some people needing help, some people struggling, it's very rewarding."

"You don't want to see people suffering and people having these type of tragedies," Firefighter Clyde Nelson added.

Just days earlier, those same firefighters had to rush into a raging fire to find two children. Unfortunately those children later died.

"We gave them the best chance possible, we just couldn't give them the results we wanted," said Lt. Steve Hutchinson.

And when firefighters save lives, they don't take it for granted.

Firefighter Al Crespo said, "A run like that's good anytime, but with the holidays coming up, really makes you feel a little better."

"This is what we signed up for, what we do every day," said firefighter Derek Denman.
