OSHP says speed was the cause of I-90 pile up

Posted: Updated:
PAINESVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says "unreasonable speed for conditions" was the cause of a 28 car crash on I-90 Christmas Eve.

At 10:20 a.m. several OSHP units responded to a crash on I-90 at Milepost 206 just east of Vrooman Road in the eastbound lanes.

Officials believe the crash started when two motorists were avoiding a previous crash involving two commercial vehicles.

In the span of one hour, 16 crashes were reported in the area. There were 28 cars involved in total. Eight people were transported to area hospitals, but no serious injuries were reported.

The crashes remain under investigation by the Chardon post of OSHP.
